Dan Well’s Seven-Point Plot System
I’m keeping it short today because with only itwo weeks/i left of this round of ROW80 (and thus, two weeks left to finish my first draft – ack!) I need to spend less time blogging and more time writing. (Wish me luck!)br /br /I saw this series of videos posted onnbsp;writernbsp;a href=”http://betweenfactandfiction.blogspot.com/”Natalie Whipple’s blog/a and found them to be really helpful. Author a href=”http://www.fearfulsymmetry.net/”Dan Wells/a talks about the seven-point system of plotting and structuring a story. Whether you’re a plotter (getting ready to write something new) or a pantser (trying to figure out if your plot holds up), you can use this system. He even uses iHarry Potter and the Sorcerer’s/i iStone/i as his example. (Kid lit FTW!)br /br /Below is the first of five videos.nbsp;bCheck it out and happy writing!/b br /br /iframe allowfullscreen=”" frameborder=”0″ height=”360″ src=”http://www.youtube.com/embed/KcmiqQ9NpPE” width=”640″/iframe

What I think is great (aside from you working so hard to finish your rough draft) are the numerous plotting methods out there. It#39;s invaluable! Even to Pantsers like me.
1Oh thanks for the video, I#39;m definately going to check it out! Good luck on your ROW80 goals!!br /br /PS: I tagged you in a writing meme on my blog, if you get a chance
2Good luck on less blogging more writing, Ghenet!br /- Sophia.
3I thought I know something about plotting, but I#39;ve recently learned there#39;s plotting, and there#39;s Story Structure. Apparently I had a plot, but my story structure was weak. So now I#39;m studying all kinds of books on story structure. Too bad everyone feels like they get to reinvent the wheel when the write a book on the topic.
4I#39;ve heard about this video but never got a chance to view it. Thanks for the link.
br /br /Good luck on finishing your draft. I know you can do it!
5@Lisa: I agree – it#39;s nice that there are so many different ways to get that perfect plot.
Thanks for your support!br /br /@K.V.: Enjoy the video. I#39;ll check out the meme – thanks for the tag and for your support!br /br /@Sophia: Thanks girl!br /br /@Stina: So true. I want to read a bunch of books on the craft of writing after I finish this draft so I hope they don#39;t confuse me!br /br /@Karen: Enjoy the video. I really liked it. Thanks for your support!
6I love story structure and working through systems like this, thanks for sharing.
7Thank you! I used to think plotting and story structuring are the same thing :Obr /br /Clearly I#39;m living in a different world.
