Tuesday Tunes: Wishes and Thieves

I don’t normally post on Tuesdays and I’ve never done a Tuesday Tunes before. But I wanted to use this opportunity to plug my friend Jolanda Porter and her band, Wishes and Thieves. I’ve known Jolanda since college, where we sang in an a cappella group together. She was that person in our group who we all knew would become a professional singer someday - she’s that talented.

Wishes and Thieves is a relatively new band with just one EP under their belt so far, but they’ve already gained quite a following! I went to their debut NYC performance last week and the bar was packed with enthusiastic fans. Their set was fantastic and I felt so proud while watching Jolanda and her band mates (Mike MacAllister, Joe Higgins and Will Clark) on stage doing their thing so well.

Remember when I talked about how writers and actors follow a similar journey? Well, it’s the same for musicians. Wishes and Thieves has worked hard, created amazing music and put themselves out there to gain new fans. Seeing them on stage pursuing their dream really inspired me. I’m so excited to see what’s in store for them, because trust me…they are going to be huge!

Here’s one of the songs off their first EP, Lighthouse. I really love their sound!
V1.
So disappointing
The wishes and thieves
And now the drowning
Sands disappear
To be so needy
There is no lighthouse here

V2.
So disappointing
The current recedes
The heart stops beating
All hopes is asleep
No hidden treasure
There is no lighthouse here

Bridge:
Hold my breath X 2
As I dive deep
The water swallows me whole

Wash my slate clean …
Don’t breathe X 2
Chorus:
The only place that I find peace is when I sink down below
And though it’s dark, I feel so safe
Cause it’s a space you can’t go
The only place I have relief
Is underwater my love
My love

V3.
So disappointing
The wishes and thieves
And now the drowning
Sands disappear
To be so needy
There is no lighthouse here

If you like what you’ve heard, you can download their current EP (currently free!) on their website. Their new EP is coming soon. They performed a few songs from it last week and I loved them all. You can also follow Wishes and Thieves on Facebook and Twitter to hear their latest news.
