ROW80 Check-In: 10/30/11

If you live in the northeast or pay attention to twitter (#snowtember), you know this happened yesterday:

As much as the thought of snow during the fall depressed me, it actually benefited my WIP because it forced me to stayed inside. I spent a good chunk of yesterday afternoon revising. I can finally check “character” off my revision checklist! Tomorrow I’ll start step two: plot.

I have to say – taking time this last month to focus on my characters was really great. I did a few of the exercises from Revision & Self Editing, which were helpful. I also used Scrivener’s “collections” feature* and created one for each major character in my story other than my protagonist, who of course is in every scene. Then I went through each character’s collection and made sure they were consistent and their arcs made sense. It took a while to do that for each character, but I think the work paid off. Hopefully now they are much more developed. I certainly feel like I know them better.

Like I said in my last check-in post, my goal is to spend 15 hours a week editing my WIP. Since I came up with the goal halfway through the week, I didn’t make it to 15 hours this week but I still did pretty well.

Hours Spent Editing This Week (Sun-Sat): 9

For those of you participating in NaNoWriMo, good luck! I’m rooting for you! I’ve actually never participated but maybe one of these years I will. :)

See how the other ROWers are doing here.
