Why Pinterest is Useful for Writers

Last week, I shared a few inspiring quotes from one of my Pinterest boards. In case you’re not familiar with Pinterest, here’s how it works. It’s a virtual bulletin board, where with a click of a button, you can “pin” images from all over the web. Your profile can have as many boards as you want, and they can fit any theme. Want a place to store all those cat photos you love? Create a board. My boards include: home & design, inspiring words, DIY projects, recipes, and writing office inspiration.

Still not sure if Pinterest is for you? Here’s why it’s useful for writers:

*All your story inspiration in one place. Pinterest is awesome if you’re the kind of writer who likes visual inspiration. If you collect images to represent the setting, character(s) or mood of your stories, you can pin them to dedicated boards. Many writers use Tumblr for this, but what’s great about Pinterest is that you can create a separate board for each project. I haven’t done this yet, but I think I’ll create a board for my next book. (Note: whatever images you pin are visible to other Pinterest users, so if you like to keep all details of your stories under wraps as you’re writing, you might want to create a vague board title.)

*Image search made easy. If you’re looking for inspirational images for your WIP, Pinterest is a great place to start. You can search by keyword and “repin” images that other users have already pinned to your board. For example, I searched for “rain” and a ton of images came up:

*Connect with other writers. With all of the other social networks out there, nobody needs another one. But if you follow other writers’ boards, you can see the images they post and repin the ones that inspire you.

In a nutshell, if you like visual inspiration while writing, you should check out Pinterest! Right now it’s invitation-only so if you’d like an invite, leave your email in the comments (or email me at ghenetwrites[at]gmail[dot]com) and I’ll invite you.

Are you on Pinterest? Happy pinning!

p.s. I have no affiliation with Pinterest. I just love their site and wanted to share!
