ROW80 Check-In: 12/11/11

Remember my last update and how productive I was? Well, this week was the complete opposite. I had a cold (one that I swear swept the nation…gross) and it prevented me from doing anything. Womp, womp. Besides reading more of Hooked, I didn’t look at my WIP at all. I even had to miss a critique group meeting and write night! But I got a lot of rest and feel back to normal, so it was time well-spent.

At this point, I’m pretty sure I won’t be finished revising my book by the end of the year. But that’s okay. I’ll just keep plugging along until it’s done. On my original list of goals was to polish my query letter and start researching agents. I’m going to start doing that now, as I revise my WIP. As Jessica Love wrote in her recent query advice post, it’s smart to write your query letter early on. Writing it early can help you figure out if there’s anything wrong with your story, and it gives you time to perfect it before sending it out. I already have a draft so I’m off to a good start.

I have the week between Christmas and New Year’s off from work, and I’m not traveling so I hope to spend lots of time revising. I can’t wait!

I hope you all are cold-free and got a lot done this week! See how other ROWers are doing here

I had a cold this time last year and wrote a post about what I learned about writing from being sick. Check it out if you’re curious! Apparently December colds are a trend for me. Gross x2…
